Teacher Daniel

Daniel

My name is Daniel and I was born and raised in the city of Davenport, Iowa, in the United States of America. After graduating from high school I attended Vincennes University on a diving scholarship. During my 2 years in Vincennes Indiana, I studied both Art and education. From there I transferred to the University of Northern Iowa; where I received a scholarship for art. UNI is renowned for being one of the best teacher’s colleges in the United States. While there I continued my study of art and education. I graduated with honors (cum laude).

I have several years experience in the field of education. While in college I started working for a daycare facility near my school. I was in charge of planning activities and the general care of the children. I continued to work for the facility until the beginning of my student teaching experience.. After graduating and becoming a certified teacher, I began to work for a preschool in Iowa City, Iowa. I remained there until taking a job with an education evaluation company named Pearson. Pearson is also the company that produces many of the books and Materials used currently by our school. For 3 years, before moving to Taiwan, I had been working for the Davenport Community School District. As a teacher for Davenport, I spent 1 year teaching art at an elementary school. I spent the remaining 2 years as a guest teacher. As a guest teacher I traveled to a wide variety of schools, and taught a wide range of subjects to diverse groups of students of varying ages. This gave me the chance to see numerous methods of teaching and classroom management. I have been living and working in Taipei for nearly 10 years now. I have enjoyed every minute of it. Most of the students that I work with are eager to learn and are a pleasure to teach.

Gail

Gail

My name is Gail Jardine, and I am a new teacher at Yan Ping High School. I joined the school in August 2023. I am British, but my mother is French, and in addition to the United Kingdom I have lived and worked in France, Germany, Switzerland, the US and Japan.

I graduated from the University of Paris in 2008 with a Master in Linguistics, and then worked as a linguist for several years. After I decided to become a teacher, I got a TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) certificate and a K-12 US Teaching License for teaching English, French and German as foreign languages. I am also a certified Cambridge Speaking Test examiner.

I taught English in Japan for four years, both in a senior high school and at University, and since 2020 have been teaching in Taipei: in an adult language school, a cram school, an elementary school, and a junior high school.

Teacher Paul

Paul

Paul grew up in the suburbs of New York. After completing his university studies in Psychology, he decided to move to Taiwan to pursue his interests in teaching. He majored in Psychology to get a better understanding of himself and society as a whole. Understanding how people think, behave, and feel is one of his biggest passions.

After extensive experience working with children and adults at cram schools and privates for about 5 years, he was given the opportunity to take his teachings to Yan Ping. Paul incorporates a balance of speaking, listening, and some writing into his lessons. He hopes to provide an interesting learning experience for his students, at the same time ensure they have sufficient time to practice their fluency.

Paul is always available to his students if they need any extra help with their English. He loves seeing his students putting extra effort into the language. Don’t be shy! You can find him every day at the Foreign Language Center or via email or facebook if you need any help.

Rebecca

Rebecca

Hey! My name is Rebecca Nugent. I am from Ireland, a small island country in the very west of Europe. I grew up in a tiny town surrounded by farms and animals! My major in University College Dublin was Chinese and Business, which led me to study, and upon graduation, work in Beijing. I have been teaching since 2016, first in Beijing and now in Taiwan.

My first time in Taiwan was actually a 2 week holiday. After 2 days, I loved it here and I never left! I have been teaching in Taiwan since 2019 and I am so excited to be here at Yanping now. The students here are so smart, bright and polite. It’s a great environment to work in and I hope I can make great progress with the students.

My goal is to help students feel more relaxed and comfortable when speaking English. You can always find me near the FLC and I am more than happy to help students with English anytime!

Steve

Steve

Hi, my name is Steve Bryant. I was born in the United States. I grew up in the state of Connecticut and attended Hunter College in New York City. At Hunter, I started to learn Mandarin Chinese. One of my professors was from Taiwan and she told many great things about Taiwan. I was very curious about it and hoped I could travel there one day. After graduating, I decided to go to Taiwan. I wanted to improve my Chinese and teach English. This was in 2006. It is fourteen years later now and I am still here!

I have been teaching English in Taiwan since I first arrived in 2006. I have taught at many different schools. I have taught at cram schools, elementary schools, junior high schools, and high schools. I feel teaching each age group allowed me to gain valuable teaching experience in the classroom. I learned how to face new challenges and discovered how to adjust my teaching methods according to my students’ needs. I really enjoy seeing the progress of my students and hope to continue to see their positive results at YanPing.

I joined YanPing in the summer of 2020 and have been impressed with the students. They are very hard-working, kind, and friendly. Their English ability is very good compared to other schools. I hope I can provide a class for them that they enjoy coming to each and every day. I try to make my class fun and interesting with different activities and give all the students a great chance to improve their English speaking and listening. I look forward to having the opportunity to be your English teacher at YanPing one day in the future!

Teacher Tyler

Tyler

Hello there! My name is Tyler Rubin, and I am one of Yan Ping’s foreign English teachers. Let me tell you a little about myself. First of all, I am from the United States. I was born in Colorado in 1983 (along with my twin sister), but my family moved to New York when I was only three months old.

I grew up on Long Island before moving north to go to college at SUNY New Paltz. I had always wanted to be a teacher, and SUNY New Paltz has the best teaching program in New York. I graduated in December 2005 with a degree in Elementary Education and History. I began substitute teaching soon after that, and I was lucky enough to be invited to teach sixth grade at a wonderful elementary school in Newburgh, New York. That was a fantastic year, and I was almost ready to settle into my life as a sixth grade teacher in Newburgh, but a summer trip to Israel changed all of that. While I was there, I was amazed by how different their culture was, and I realized that I had not experienced enough of what the world has to offer. When I returned home, I resigned from my teaching job and immediately began searching for a good place to live for a year.

I wanted to go somewhere that was completely foreign to me. Taiwan was highly recommended by many people on the Internet for its warm weather and friendly people. I found a job here that night, and two weeks later I was in Keelung getting ready to teach English at Sacred Heart elementary school. Although I had only planned to stay in Taiwan for one year, I loved it so much that I stayed here. As I write this (October 22, 2010), I am in my fourth year in Taiwan, and my second year at Yan Ping. It has been a great experience teaching all of my students, and I will never forget you!

Lyn

Wenalyn

My name is Wenalyn. You can call me “Lyn”. I’m a Bachelor of Science in Nursing graduate with two years of clinical experience and six years of teaching. I’m really fond of learning something about science. I am an outgoing person. I love to travel, and I am interested in different cultures. At the age of 24, I decided to move out and live abroad. It was quite a challenging experience for me being away from my family, but that venture taught me many things about life. To embrace the beauty of people and the world (The good and bad). Travelling certainly broadens your horizons!

I have taught multinational students (Taiwanese, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Vietnamese, and Thai). It is still uncertain if I will go back to a nursing career. As of now, I enjoy teaching and pursuing my master’s degree in educational management.

P.S.

Hi, students! I wish you the best as you start a new school year with us here at Yan Ping High School. May you always be motivated to improve and gain knowledge. All the best! T. Lyn
